About a Dress #32

About a Dress #32
This week’s thrift store dress had a lot of color, but was not cut to flatter. I have been really feeling wearing short shorts pretty much every day, and so naturally I decided to turn this skirt into exactly that. However, this girl has a butt, so I wanted to do some shorts that would exist peacefully with some curves and not fight back.

Customer Profile: Jamie

Jamie brought in this polka dot dress she found at a consignment shop that just wasn’t quite right but had so much potential.  She is a performer and ideally wanted to be able to wear the dress to concerts or events, but also wanted it to be a little more modern and fun.

Customer Profile: Nicole

Nicole brought in this beautiful vintage dress that we could tell had been well loved.  She originally bought it on etsy, wore it to a wedding, eventually had the sleeves taken off, and wore it to another wedding. However at the 2nd wedding, the dress did not survive the dancing, and needed to be updated or recycled again. Before blog

About a Dress #31

About a Dress #31
We have had this crazy little piece in our collection so long! It’s one completely EPIC shirt! Unfortunately, no matter how it was belted or tied or layered, it just didn’t work, and each time we tried to revamp it we were stumped, so it went back into the storage bins. However this week was the week, and I was determined to make this thing cool again! before front blog

Customer Profile: Michael

Michael bought a few suits that he snagged on super sale, and brought them to us to work our magic. The jacket was quite wide at the shoulder (it angled out an abnormal amount), and sleeves were too wide, but the bottom of the jacket fit him perfectly! Michael Blazer before 1 blog

Customer Profile: Jennifer

Jennifer brought us one of her father-in-law’s old jackets, and wanted to figure out a way that she could wear it. She loved the fabric, but the shape was definitely not flattering on her, and it needed some jazzing up. She really liked our zipper jacket ideas, so we decided to convert this old blazer.

Customer Profile: Dafna’s Dress

Say hello (once again!) to Dafna, our customer profile of the week. Some of you probably recognize her from I Found That Vintage (formerly housed in the backroom at GRD), or Blue’s Hard Goods, or just from being a fashion inspiration around town :). Dafna is constantly scouring different thrift stores, estate sales, and vintage shops all over the country, and occasionally comes across a diamond in the rough. Case in point; this homemade, cowboy bandana, square dancing skirt. It’s so…so…SOMETHING, but it was not working as a skirt. Luckily, she held onto it, and brought it to us, with dreams of a breezy summer dress. First thing I did, during the fitting even, was remove the elastic. That way I could see how much fabric we had to work with, and – BONUS! – have this great photo op. A project like this required a couple of fittings, but Dafna was totally on-board, and gradually we cut the dress down to a much more manageable size. dafna low res
