Tailoring Terminology: Miter

Ever go to a tailor and have no idea what word(s) she/he just said? Well, we are here to bring a little education into the wide world of tailoring with a little terminology talk. Check back every week for a new term.

Next up: Miter

“Mitering” is a technique used on corners to create a smooth 90-degree seam. It squares the corner neatly, while creating a diagonal seam from the point of the corner into the seam allowance. This finish is almost always used on the cuffs of suit jackets, and always reminds me of the importance of fractions. Algebra really WAS useful, who knew?
