Tailoring Terminology: Grommet

Ever go to a tailor and have no idea what word(s) she/he just said? Well, we are here to bring a little education into the wide world of tailoring with a little terminology talk. Check back every week for a new term.

Next up: Grommet

The Ginger Root ladies have been working on their Spring line and have included a little dose of grommets. Super cute, right?

grommet is a ring inserted into a hole through material, such as clothing, shoes, canvases, etc.  They may be used to prevent tearing or abrasion of material, for functionality (to string up canvases) or just to create a super cute design. You also see them on some shoes, for shoelaces to go through. Smaller grommets are sometimes called eyelets and are a single metal piece. We prefer the grommets that are two pieces, they’re generally more stable. The single eyelets can cause the fabric to fray (we’ve all been there with our old sneakers).
