Kristen came to us with an adorable dress that had been a hand-me-down from her sister. The intricate colored lace layers around the top of the bodice were beautiful, but the shapeless baby doll cut completely hid her figure! We were already using the trim from the bottom of the dress to lengthen a different frock, so we took advantage of the fact that we were already hacking it apart, and decided to make a skirt  🙂

I removed the shoulder straps, and took in either side of the dress, creating a hip curve. I added an invisible side seam zipper, and added closures on the top of the new waistband. Lastly, I finished off the hem.

This formerly baggy dress is now the perfect summer skirt! Flirty and floaty and lightweight cotton, and now it shows off Kristen’s waist, instead of hiding it under and extra 2 feet of fabric. Beautiful AND weather appropriate (which is not an easy feat in DC  🙂
