Tailoring Terminology: Bias Tape

Ever go to a tailor and have no idea what word(s) she/he just said? Well, we are here to bring a little education into the wide world of tailoring with a little terminology talk. Check back every week for a new term.

Next up: Bias Tape

Bias tape is a long, narrow strip of fabric that has been cut on the bias. As a result of being cut on the bias, it’s stretchy and fluid.  You may recognize bias tape, as we use it in some of our own designs, like our outlined ties!

We use bias tape to outline our men’s ties, but bias tape can be utilized in a bunch of different ways.  It can be used to make piping on clothes,  it can be sewn onto seams, or can be placed on an unfinished edge of fabric.  Biased tape can be handmade or you can buy it in packs at craft and  fabric stores.
