This week we introduce you to our lovely customer, Erin! Erin has brought us a lot of items that usually need small adjustments to be wearable. For her most recent fitting she brought us this strapless dress and explained that she loved the color and fabric of the bottom (which was a lightweight, soft woven fabric with pockets!) , but felt that it just didn’t work as an actual dress because of the knit top.  It was easy to see why: the stretchy top part of the dress was not big enough for any woman to cover up even a strapless bra.  This was an unfortunate patterning uh-oh from the manufacturer.  In addition for strapless garments, they generally need to be anchored at the waist so they don’t fall down :s  Moral of the story, we suggested turning this into her new staple summer maxi skirt, pockets ‘n all!

So we removed the top, hemmed the bottom, added a zipper in back so we could keep the pockets, and for the final touch, we created a colorful waistband and belt loops using scrap fabric.

The result? A chic maxi skirt for all seasons!

Want a maxi skirt? Or heck, any new skirt? Instead of buying a brand new one, go through your closet or check out the local thrift store to see if you can score a skirt or dress that we can revamp! Besides, it’s more fun with clothing has a story 🙂
