About a Dress #11

This week’s dress was from an estate sale of an old model.  From the looks of it, this stylish woman put on some weight, and hacked up her beautiful dresses and sewed in stiff black ribbon so she could keep wearing them.  This clothing just had so much to say! As you can see from this dress, we couldn’t give up on it because the fabric was just so cool!  All of the black stripes are actually velvet, and you really can’t find silk like this!

First things first, we cut off all of the damaged areas so we could see what we could work with.  Since the skirt was mostly unharmed, we chopped the dress in half, tailored the waist, removed the stripe from around the neck and used it for the new waistband.  From the scrap fabric that wasn’t stained or sliced, we cut out a piece for the neck and paired it with bright red linen to make one of our Elsa tops.  This blouse is perfect top for work or if you pair it with your favorite statement necklace, for play.

Make this revamped dress yours before it’s gone!
